It happened like this:
Mom, Chris, and I headed out for a weekend of camping and hiking in the middle of August. Being that we were in the mountains, and being that there also happens to be a place that serves great blackberry margaritas in the mountains, we decided the best course of action would be to stop off and drink one before heading out to find a camping spot. A good idea apparently, because the course of my future was changed forever there in Fiesta Jalisco.
Despite my shyness (tongue firmly in cheek), I started a conversation with our lovely waitress, Jessica, asking her about her experience in the mountains, the resources she used, and what she thought could make it better. I (looking longingly out the window at the beautiful peaks around us) told her that I missed Summit and wished I could find a job doing what I do/that doesn't make me feel like a schmuck, at which point she advised me to check out the classifieds for a recent job opening at the Family and Intercultural Resource Center.
The next day--there it was, the all-important job announcement, which I would come to find out was about to be pulled from the paper, making my resume the last that they received, and thankfully just ekeing myself into the interview process which they had already started. Long story short, I started my new, awesome job as the Integration Liaison/Global Summit Coordinator (how come in all of my life's endeavors involve stupidly long titles and acronyms?) at the FIRC.
Then, Serendipity stepped in again when, perusing the classifieds again, I stumbled across a familiar number whose owner advertised rooms for rent in Frisco with views and decks. "Surely, it's a coincidence," I thought. No. No coincidence, just Cheryl, my former boss at Copper, who also happens to like to cook and has impeccable taste in furniture. So there it was, my future house, which looks out on the same peaks that filled the restaurant window where Jessica foretold my future.
There are more serendipitous events and people coming into my life, but I'm waiting to fully grasp the serendipitousness before I go writing about them, just in case I'm calling to much attention to myself. Fate has funky rules and I want to stay in line. Needless to say, life is really awesome right now. Maybe more awesome than ever.
More to come. Salaam.
